Teaser Tuesday {10}

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by

Styx's Storm by Lora Leigh
"You don't have a chance. Enjoy the memories because it won't happen again, Wolf boy."

His grin widened. "I don't know, pretty girl, I've been planning the next seductive little session we might have. I'd be bettin' that creamy flesh would take the taste of chocolate as though it had been made for it. Should we give it a try?"

Got to love a man that knows the importance of chocolate and how to use it. ;)

Plagued by a war between magic and technology, Atlanta has never been so deadly. Good thing Kate Daniels is on the job.
Kate Daniels may have quit the Order of Merciful Aid, but she’s still knee-deep in paranormal problems. Or she would be if she could get someone to hire her. Starting her own business has been more challenging than she thought it would be—now that the Order is disparaging her good name, and many potential clients are afraid of getting on the bad side of the Beast Lord, who just happens to be Kate’s mate.
So when Atlanta’s premier Master of the Dead calls to ask for help with a vampire on the loose, Kate leaps at the chance of some paying work. Turns out this is not an isolated incident, and Kate needs to get to the bottom of it—fast, or the city and everyone dear to her might pay the ultimate price . . .

I pre-order this one months ago and can't wait to read it.

Review: How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf

How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf #1)
by Molly Harper
Buy Links: Amazon / B&N

Northern Exposure
Even in Grundy, Alaska, it’s unusual to find a naked guy with a bear trap clamped to his ankle on your porch. But when said guy turns into a wolf, recent southern transplant Mo Wenstein has no difficulty identifying the problem. Her surly neighbor Cooper Graham—who has been openly critical of Mo’s ability to adapt to life in Alaska—has trouble of his own. Werewolf trouble.
For Cooper, an Alpha in self-imposed exile from his dysfunctional pack, it’s love at first sniff when it comes to Mo. But Cooper has an even more pressing concern on his mind. Several people around Grundy have been the victims of wolf attacks, and since Cooper has no memory of what he gets up to while in werewolf form, he’s worried that he might be the violent canine in question.
If a wolf cries wolf, it makes sense to listen, yet Mo is convinced that Cooper is not the culprit. Except if he’s not responsible, then who is? And when a werewolf falls head over haunches in love with you, what are you supposed to do anyway? The rules of dating just got a whole lot more complicated. . . .

REVIEW:

I've had Molly Harper's "Good Girls" series on my shelf for a while but I've not gotten around to reading them yet but after borrowing "How to Flirt With a Naked Werewolf" (HFNW) from a friend I will have to move them up my TBR list.

HFNW was a fun and light read about Mo, a soon to be 30 old year that has to move from Mississippi all the way to Grundy Alaska, in order to get away from her nosey tree hugging parents to have her own life.

Even though Mo is an outsider in Grundy she falls in step with the locals very fast when she takes a job at the local saloon as the cook. Mo makes friends with everyone in town, with the exception of the surly, dark and handsome hunting guide, Cooper.

But Mo and Copper's relationship changes when he shows up one night on her porch with a bear trap on his ankle and butt naked. Mo helps Cooper out of the bear trap and watches over him all night while he recovers.

A romance builds between the two while reports of mysterious killings and missing people keep popping up around the small Alaskan town.

Ms. Harper did an superb job keeping me entertained and laughing while reading HFNW. She uses a grand mix humor and sarcasm with a dash of sexiness to bring her characters to life. I've added Molly Harper to my must buy list, if all her books are this funny and enjoyable I can't lose picking up anything she writes.

Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she's about to find out.
When one of the strangers—beautiful, haunted Akiva—fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

Review: I Shall Wear Midnight

I Shall Wear Midnight (Tiffany Aching, #4)
by Terry Pratchett
Genre: YA
Buy Links: Amazon / B&N

It starts with whispers.
Then someone picks up a stone.
Finally, the fires begin.
When people turn on witches, the innocents suffer. . . .
Tiffany Aching has spent years studying with senior witches, and now she is on her own. As the witch of the Chalk, she performs the bits of witchcraft that aren t sparkly, aren t fun, don t involve any kind of wand, and that people seldom ever hear about: She does the unglamorous work of caring for the needy.
But someone or something is igniting fear, inculcating dark thoughts and angry murmurs against witches. Aided by her tiny blue allies, the Wee Free Men, Tiffany must find the source of this unrest and defeat the evil at its root before it takes her life. Because if Tiffany falls, the whole Chalk falls with her.
Chilling drama combines with laughout-loud humor and searing insight as beloved and bestselling author Terry Pratchett tells the high-stakes story of a young witch who stands in the gap between good and evil.

Review:

The fourth installment of the Tiffany Aching series gives a better idea of what it means for Tiffany to be THE witch of the Chalk.  The previous three books gave us more details of what witches in Terry Pratchett's  Discworld universe have to DO, but this one shows us how important the roles are that the witches play in their stead for their people.

Tiffany has accomplished quite a lot from her first experiences as a witch as an adolescent to now, as a young woman.  She has demonstrated an ability to both wield magic and be the person in charge of her area skillfully, and in doing some of the more remarkable things, has awoken a monster that has spelt doom for many witches before her (and even for people who had nothing to do with witchcraft whatsoever).  She has to try to stop this thing, all while her maybe, kind-of, but definitely not really boyfriend is getting ready to get married to someone else.

There is comedy throughout this story (which makes sense when you have cursing little blue men in kilts), as there always is in a Pratchett book.  But there is also magic, and darkness, and fear, and a lesson in doing the thing that needs to be done, even when the choices are bad and worse.

Rating: 3.5

Dude! Leave me along when I'm reading.

My husband has an iPad2 and he was playing with it last night taking pics of himself. Needless to say I hate my picture being taken and I don't want to be bothered while I'm reading. LOL
After he took the pic he said, "Nice title". (How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf)

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're anxiously awaiting.

I love the Night Huntress series and even though I thought the last books (This Side of the Grave) was not the best in the series it did leave me wanting more at the end. And I think One Grave at a Time is going to be awesome.

Funny Video: Why Everyone Wants to Have Sex With Vampires

Review: Lucinda, Darkly

LUCINDA, DARKLY by Sunny
The Demon Princess Chronicles#1
Release Date: August 7, 2007
Erotic Paranormal
Read an Excerpt
Order at Amazon.com
For centuries, Lucinda has endured her agonizing reality. As daughter of the High Lord of Hell, she rules over nothing, retrieving the occasional wayward demon and feeding off of the savage Monére—of whom she was a member before she died.
Then she encounters the Monére warrior Stefan, who offers himself to her. She is moved beyond measure by her desire for him—and soon finds herself drawn back into the heady eroticism of the Monére. There, she must carve out a home between the jealousy of the dead and the violence of the living, if she is to keep her newfound love—and life…

Review:

I like to refer to Sunny's writing as Laurell K. Hamilton Lite. You know with an actual plot and with a side of smut that factors into the plot. As opposed to a book full of just orgies (coughs - Anita).

If you enjoyed Sunny's Monére, Children of the Moon Series (aka Mona Lisa Series), you will enjoy Lucinda, Darkly. It follows in much the same style as the Mona Lisa series and in the same world. For those of you that has read the Mona Lisa books you've meet Halcyon, Lucinda's demon brother. (Yummy BTW)

The story revolves around Lucinda's job as a guardian from Hell. While she is on Earth she runs into a rouge Monére warrior, Stefan, that brings up feelings in her that she has not had in a very long time. Like in over 600 years long. After Lucinda leaves Stefan to return to her home in Hell she gets a new job assigned to her. She must hunt a rouge Monére warrior and bring him back to his Queen. Fearing that the rouge is Stefan, Lucinda is relieved to find out it is not Stefan but a different warrior named Nico.

But once Lucinda hunts Nico down and returns him to his Queen she decides to claim him as hers. And in turn also claiming the demon that Nico's Queen has in possession.

The plot revolves around the stolen demon, Talon, who needs to be returned to his homeland and the struggles Lucinda and her rouge warriors face in doing so.

But the real struggle is the interpersonal one that Lucinda has trying to keep her emotional distance from her new found men, who are desperate to get closer to her.

So if you like reading paranormal books where the heroine has a harem of sexy men (wouldn't we all like to have one of those) this is the read for you.

B&N's New Nook

Barnes and Noble announces yet another Nook.

It's all touch screen and has e-ink. They claim that the new battery life will hold a charge for 2 months. And it's light weight.

To see more click here.

I have the 1st Edition Nook.

And I love it. My only complaint is the battery life, it does not last the 10 days they claim. So the longer battery life would be nice and the lighter weight would be a plus too.
But I'll stick with my Nook and if something happens to it I will replace it with the newer Nook and not Nook Color. I prefer the e-ink to the color screen. I sit in front of a PC all day and when I read I want a break from the bright LCD screens.

2nd Annual Once Upon a Read-a-thon!

Once Upon a Read-a-Thon
It's time to sign up for the second annual Once Upon a Readathon! This Readathon is hosted by Angela at Reading Angel, Candace at Candace's Book Blog and at Pure Imagination Blog. It runs from 12:01 am on July 11 to 11:59 on July 13th.

I just ran across the Once Upon a Read-a-thon and decided to sign up for it. It's my first read-a-thon and I'm very excited. What to read?! I have a huge TBR so this will help me get through some of the books that have been waiting on my shelf/Nook.

Since it's scheduled during the week and I'll have to work (boo!) I'm sure I'll "cheat" a little and throw in a few novellas and shorts. ;) Hey reading it reading, right?

Once the date gets closer I'll post my reading list for the read-a-thon and keep it updated so everyone can see my progress and I'm sure I'll post reviews for most of what I read during that time.

Teaser Tuesday

Bitten to Death (Jaz Parks #4) by Jennifer Rardin
I broke the pill free of its wax coating and showed it to Koren. “Lucky you that Disa decided to play ball.”

She gestured to the shaft of the bolt, still sticking out of her gut. “What about this?” she cried.

“Keep it,” I said. “A little souvenir to remind you not to mess with skinny redheads from America.”

Lucinda, Darkly (Demon Princess #1) by Sunny

"Why are you doing this? Being like this?" Stefan asked.

"You wanted to be my food. This is how I treat my food," she purred and stepped closer until her ripe breasts almost grazed his chest.

Earl of Darkness by Alix Rickoff

Ahern nodded, his smile dimming. "Found dead in his bath."

"What's so mysterious about that?" Cat asked.

"He was fully dressed and missing his head."

Release Day

Here's a list of new releases coming out today.

Zombies Sold Separately by Cheyenne McCray (#4 in Night Tracker)
Something Deadly This Way Comes by Kim Harrison (#3 in Madison Avery)
The Vampire Narcise by Colleen Gleason (#3 in Vampire)
The Devil in Disguies by Stefanie Sloane (#1 in Regency Rogues)

My pick:

I have the 1st book in the Night Tracker series by Cheyenne McCray but I've not read it yet. If I like it then I'll check out Zombies Sold Separately. Plus who can pass up a book with a title like that?

Nyx hates Zombies. Seriously. Hates. Zombies. Ever since she was a youngling, she’s been haunted by them. And even though she’s a big girl now—a half-human, half-Drow private eye, to be precise—Nyx bristles at the mere thought of the walking dead.
Meanwhile, the corpses of humans and paranorms alike are turning up all over New York City. Now it’s up to Nyx to find out who—or what—is behind this series of horrific attacks. But it’s only a matter of time before Nyx is drawn deeper into her darkest fears…and her worst nightmare about meeting a real, flesh-and-blood-hungry, body-snatching Zombie comes blindingly to life. Or death…

True Blood: Another Season 4 Trailer

Cover Revealed

Straight from Ms. Adrian's newsletter.....

DARKER AFTER MIDNIGHT
And now, last but not least . . . drumroll, please . . . we are excited to present the cover art for Chase's book and Lara's hardcover debut -- Darker After Midnight!
January 24, 2012
Isn't it beautiful? Some of you already caught the fact that Amazon has posted a pre-order page for the book--complete with plot spoilers! Argh! They've since been erased from the page, but if you happened to have spotted the full book description over the last week or so, we're very sorry! Trust me, we hate spoilers as much as you do. :-/

:: More Midnight Breed on the way! ::
As Lara mentioned in the last newsletter, the Midnight Breed series is getting some wonderful recognition from her publisher, Bantam Dell. Not only is the series being promoted into hardcover (with mass market releases to follow about six months later), but the world of the Midnight Breed will be continuing beyond its initial ten-book story arc!
Lara has recently signed on to write another two books in the series, and there will also be an exclusive, e-book original novella coming out later this year. We know a lot of you will want to know if the novella will be Gideon and Savannah's story. Not this time, but Lara definitely has plans to tell their story in the near future.
We'll tell you more about who's coming up next in the series, as well as the e-book novella, as soon as we have the okay to spill details!

I'm happy for Lara Adrian that she is getting published in hardback but at the same time it kind of sucks since the books will cost more now. :(
